Golden Rams Win NJCAA Region XIIIB Championship

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team won the NJCAA Region XIIIB Championship on Sunday with a convincing 77-57 victory over Northland.  The Golden Rams previously beat MN North Vermilion 73-57 in the semifinals.


Anoka-Ramsey led 18-6 after the first quarter of the championship game, jumping out to a 7-0 lead early on.


The Golden Rams extended the lead to 34-8 midway thru the second period and never looked back as they knocked off the Pioneers.


Anisa Longs scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists.


Mariam Alowonle scored 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting while adding ten rebounds.


ShaiAnne Jackson knocked down four three-pointers on the way to 14 points off the bench.


The Golden Rams held Northland to 34.4 percent shooting including 0 for 9 from the three-point line, and held a 46-33 edge in rebounds.


Longs was named the Region Most Valuable Player, with Coach Samantha Doucette being named Region Coach of the Year.


Anoka-Ramsey qualifies for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament March 11-14 in Brownwood, Texas.
