Golden Rams Conclude Season as NJCAA National Runner-Up

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team ended their season advancing to the NJCAA Division III Championship game before falling 51-41 to Minnesota West.


The Golden Rams finish the season 24-6 overall.


In their quarterfinal game vs Owens, the Golden Rams came away with a 74-59 win thanks to stifling defense, holding Owens to just 27.5 percent shooting and forcing 27 turnovers.


Mariam Alowonle scored 32 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, shooting 14 of 18 from the field.


Destiny Casey recorded a 15 point, ten rebound double-double hitting 5 of 10 from three-point range.


Anisa Longs scored 13 points, and ShaiAnne Jackson added 11 points.  Tereya McDaniel-Vaughn had 12 rebounds.


The semifinals saw Anoka-Ramsey face another familiar foe in Northland, and come away with a 57-55 win - their third win over the Pioneers this season.


Anoka-Ramsey overcame a tough shooting game by forcing 23 turnovers and making 14 of 21 free throws.


Alowonle had 16 ponits and ten rebounds.  Longs added 14 points, with Casey scoring 11. 


McDaniel-Vaughn chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.


The championship saw the Golden Rams run out of gas despite forcing 27 turnovers.


McDaniel-Vaughn scored 15 points on 7 of 12 shooting to go with 11 rebounds.  Alowonle also tallied 15 points with ten rebounds.


Anoka-Ramsey managed just 23.2 percent shooting and 2 of 23 from three.


Alowonle, Casey, and McDaniel-Vaughn were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
